CHEST, 78: 6, DECEMBER, 1980 than in the group in which Qsp did not increase (13.3 ± 1.2 vs 27.5 ± 3.1 percent, mean ± SE, p < .001). Qsp with 100 percent oxygen may increase as a result of absorption atelectasis and redistribution of regional pulmonary blood flow to poorly or nonventilated lung areas. However, a decline in Qsp with 100 percent oxygen may result from a decrease in “shunt like” effects produced by low V/Q areas or diffusion impairment It has been suggested that the change in Qsp with increasing F1o2 is a result of the interaction between those factors which will increase and those which will decrease ( sp. Our data suggest that this interaction favors an increase in ()sp with 100 percent oxygen in those patients where Qsp at the maintenance Flo, is low, but does not in more severely ill patients where Qsp at the maintenance Flo, is higher. We agree that measurement of Qsp after administration of 100 percent oxygen may be misleading and may result in

COMMUNICATIONSTO THE EDITOR 901 dosis to activity and generalization of the disease seems distinct. Positive tonsillar specimens were fewer than had been reported, but even lower figures have been quoted. These differences might be due to differences in selecting patients, and taking and processing biopsies. In tonsillar specimens, granulomas were sparsely located. Therefore, in some of our cas...
متن کاملConjunctival biopsy in the diagnosis of sarcoidosis.
We prospectively studied 47 sarcoidosis suspects and compared conjunctival and transbronchial lung biopsies in these patients. Thirty-four patients had positive findings on biopsy by either method. The transbronchial biopsy was positive in 31 patients, and the conjunctival was positive in 19. The transbronchial lung biopsy was more likely to be positive in black patients (p = 0.009) and in pati...
متن کاملConjunctival biopsy in sarcoidosis.
BACKGROUND Conjunctival biopsy is considered to be a simple, safe and specific diagnostic procedure for sarcoidosis. This study was designed to determine the value of this procedure in Taiwan. METHODS This study was conducted from December 2003 to April 2005 at the uveitis clinic of Taipei Veterans General Hospital. Blind sampling was conducted, obtaining a biopsy sample measuring 1 cm long b...

متن کاملDiagnosis of Bilateral Tonsil Cancers via Staging PET/CT: Case Report and Review
Diagnostic workup of metastatic head and neck squamous cell carcinoma of unknown primary site has traditionally included CT and/or MRI imaging and endoscopic biopsies. Routine bilateral tonsillectomy is highly controversial and the role of PET/CT is evolving, both for identification of potential primary sites and the detection of distant metastases. We report a case of cervical nodal metastasis...
